Rebecca Campbell
Rebecca Campbell – lead and background vocals, Stella acoustic guitar, melodica, percussion, drum kit.
Rebecca Campbell is a singer, musician, songwriter, photographer, arts facilitator, cultural emissary and editor. But mostly, she sings.
Her music has been described as emotionally-rooted, adventurous, honest, impressionistic, lyrical and full of surprises, always betraying a disregard for idiomatic boundaries.
Rebecca was the vocalist/percussionist with the Ottawa-based pop collective, Fat Man Waving from 1987 until 1996. She has performed and recorded extensively with countless combos, including her a cappella trio, Three Sheets to the Wind, and her duos with both Russell Levia and Justin Haynes.
Over the course of her career, she has been the background singer of choice for numerous singer-songwriters, including Ian Tamblyn, Lynn Miles, Joanne Mackell, Tannis Slimmon, David Sereda, Beth Ferguson, Colleen Peterson, and Jeff Bien. On and off, for many years, she was Jane Siberry’s girl Friday and right-hand singer. She continues to sing and record with Carol Ann Weaver (with whom she travels the globe), Ian Tamblyn (with whom she travels north), Lynn Miles, Microbunny and Porkbelly Futures.
She has shared the stage with many notable artists, including Meredith Monk, Ernest Ranglin, Ernie Smith, Dorothy Moore, Mageshen Naidoo, Prince Bulo, Emmylou Harris, Ani Defranco, Daniel Lanois, Alanis Morrisette, Fred Eaglesmith, Luther Wright, Jim Cuddy, The Skydiggers, and The Parachute Club.
When she isn’t singing, she’s co-managing a pro rehearsal studio in downtown Toronto, and co-presenting, with artistic director Ron Gaskin, a series of adventurous jazz concerts, under the Rough Idea banner.
